Statement of Intent
Having trained as a painter and sculptor, I soon realized my interest in expressing feelings and thoughts in their abstract form, often using symbols to express them. My work evokes personal and intimate moments.
My immersion in ancient Japanese Zen art has influenced my work.
My current practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, and photography.
I express my interest in movement, transparency and layers. In recent work, on interconnected loops.
My work has been the result of personal experiences, feelings and thoughts. Sometimes I like to "jump into the void" to see the result instead of focusing on the abstract intention.
In my first works I painted about people connected to me, my sense of a situation or my sense of a person.
Through the technique of ancient Zen art, I became more abstract and enjoyed the use of symbols.
I have been expressing ideas about freedom, movement and lightness using shoes, wings, water, circles and trees.
A constant in my work is my interest in layers, transparency and movement. I am currently knitting wire... Interconnecting loops.
Knitting is very personal to me, it is one of the last links I have with my grandmother; she taught me to knit.
I use knitting as a meditation activity and as a symbol (humanity has used it to make protective clothing).
The use of wire gives to my work the harshness in contrast to the gentleness of the knitting process.
My latest exhibit named WITNESSES TO A SUBCONSCIOUS PAST is about psychological bonds.
They are subconscious witnesses that interconnect past with present. They interconnect cultural heritage with family tradition.
It is that legacy that passes from a grandmother to a granddaughter or from a mother to a daughter, forming a bond, a union of past with present, generating invisible wires that unite generation with generation.
Invisible threads are formed in every family, group, society and are as strong as a metal wire.
They are those bonds with organic, sensual forms, which are always present through the subconscious: they interconnect past and present, interconnect people, unite memories with dreams, unite futures created from the inconsistency of a subconscious past.
If I could give a visible form to the invisible BONDS I have with all the people I love, appreciate, care or with whom I have a toxic relationship... these would be their representations.
Thought and matter
My art originates from meditation, since I only express one thought or feeling on each artwork.
The way to acheive it is simple, empty my mind to concentrate only in one thought or feeling each time.
When I have it clear and strong in mind, I express it.
Ink, water and paper become an extension of my body, helping me express what I choose to think.
Part of my signature are two Kanji: one of them is love and the other one is achievement ... If I love what I do, I achieve. Everytime I sign a work, it´s my reminder to use all my passion in what I do.
Actualmente estoy tejiendo alambre....
